Excela Health Careers
Excela Health's hospital network hopes to rank as excellent health care providers to residents of southwestern Pennsylvania. Hospitals within the health system, which serves Pennsylvania's Westmoreland, Indiana, and Fayette counties, include Westmoreland Hospital, Latrobe Hospital, and Frick Hospital. Combined, they provide some 655 acute care beds. In addition to general medical and surgical care, the hospitals offer outpatient and specialty treatment in such areas as heart disease, cancer, and women's health. The system operates ancillary businesses as well, including a home health and hospice agency, surgery centers, primary and specialty care clinics, and an ambulance service.
Additionally, Excela Health offers medical equipment services through its MedCare Equipment Company and a joint venture with Washington Hospital and Butler, Conemaugh, and Heritage Valley health systems. Other partnerships include Consolidate Supply Chain Services (with Heritage Valley), the Arnold Palmer Pavilion (with UPMC Cancer Centers), and a service agreement with LifeLine Centers for Sleep Disorders (through June 2012).
Excela Health was formed through the 2004 merger of the Latrobe and Frick hospitals. The not-for-profit health system expanded in 2008 by acquiring the 100-bed Mercy Jeannette Hospital, which was renamed Westmoreland Hospital at Jeannette. After observing declining admissions at the Jeanette campus, however, the facility was transitioned from a full-service hospital to an outpatient facility offering urgent care services in 2010. The former inpatient services of the Jeanette facility were transferred to the main Westmoreland Hospital campus in nearby Greensburg, which underwent expansion efforts adding 60 patient beds that year.
Excela Health is increasing its focus on wellness and bringing patient care closer to home by expanding its presence in suburban areas. In 2012 the system plans to add physicians offices and expand its imaging services at its outpatient surgery center in North Huntingdon in Westmoreland county.
The health system is also directing resources towards capital improvements that have included renovations, buying specialized equipment, and implementing electronic health record (EHR) systems at its facilities. It began installing automated clinical documentation equipment at its outpatient centers in 2010.
