A Rebounding Industry

The economic slump that began in 2008 hit a lot of industries hard, causing many to rethink how they do business. The hospitality industry was forced to reimagine what it meant to vacation with hotels, as they turned to attractions, restaurants and shopping centers in local market to support them through this slump. With expendable income becoming limited for many travelers, families opted for “staycations” when looking to get away. The hospitality industry also started to use the Internet to connect to prospective guests by offering fire-sale rate specials and admission discounts for online bookings in addition to complimentary services and meals.hospitality salary by title While the hospitality industry has always been in the business of serving its customers, customer service took on a new meaning during these past few years as businesses were looking to take over market share from their competitors during the downturn.

Hospitality Management Careers, give me some insight...?

I'm 21 years old and about to start college. I found a very good program at a local 2 year college. The program is Hospitality Management. They have transfer agreements with schools in Florida which appeals to me. This is a very hands on college - The college owns a hotel and the HM majors run it. The courses seem fun and the degree seems promising, but my only concern is the career itself.
I don't want to go to school and get a degree only to work the check in counter at a hotel, I don't care how nice the resort is. I have worked customer service since I was 15, and after just 6 year…

I have the college equivalent in the hospitality industry---almost 2 decades, and would love to be a food & beverage director for a 4 to 5 star hotel chain. You could live and work on premise---not to mention travel the world. Man, go for it!!!
